The width is adjustable from 1/16" (1.6 mm) to 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) by using the screw on the side
By holding the swivel knife at a angle and pulling towards you, you will have a perfect border line

Durability
Of course it is made of plastic so the durability can not be expected to last forever. And adjusting the guide was a bit of a hassle. However it did work great when I used it up until the point the plastic cracked from the screw being tightened. It has served me well for quite some time and is a great starting point for straight lines. However since this once has broke I have moved up and upgraded to the metal/wood version. I had not purchased it before because it was a decent difference and I did not know if I would actually use it. But since I have used it quite a bit I am upgrading to the better model. Wonderful little tool. Extended use is not recommended but as a starting tool to see if it is something you will use often I recommend.

Works fine
I used it on a test piece of leather. A little bit of a nuisance to have to get out the screwdriver each time I want to adjust it, but it works OK.
