It maintains a firm grip due to its great socket construction. These snaps have a 5/16" (8 mm) post and a 5/8"(16 mm) cap and base which works well for leather thickness 8 to 10 ounces.       Snaps seem good so far, just don't be to rough installing them. I had to learn with my first few the correct way to install them.
